Artist Statement
My images explore cohesiveness and abstraction found in nature. Nature, in all its forms, offers a canvas of infinite textures, colors, and emotions. Through balancing shadows and light, my photographs emulate the unseen harmony that exists all around us that typically slips through moments of time.
Photography, for me, is more than just a method of recording what I see—it is a means of connection. I believe that photography holds a unique power to bring people closer to the earth and to each other, fostering a shared sense of harmony for our world. My work is rooted in my belief that photography has the ultimate power to connect humans to the earth and with each other. In times of rapid environmental changes, each photograph serves as a tribute to the resilience of nature while also a call to preserve the earth’s fragile elements for future generations.
Harvesting colors from a landscape and emulating the mood of a scene is my foundation when capturing a moment. Just as painters like Van Gogh and Claude Monet used bold brushstrokes to infuse their works with emotion, I use the camera to translate nature’s rich textures and colors into something that speaks directly to the heart. I am inspired by pioneers such as Ansel Adams and Steve McCurry. Adams’ work taught me to appreciate the vastness and scale of nature’s beauty. McCurry’s ability to capture the raw emotion of a moment—whether through a single portrait or sweeping landscape.
Through my lens, I strive to reveal the layers of meaning and beauty that are often hidden in plain sight. By focusing on the subtleties of light, color, and shape, I hope to encourage viewers to see the world with a renewed sense of awe and appreciation. In every image, I aim to create a moment of stillness where the viewer can pause, reflect, and reconnect.
My name is Sarah Manning and I am a freelance outdoor photographer. Starting in Peoria, Illinois, I switched focus from capturing the small town atmosphere to the breathtaking nature in the southwest. I am dedicated to adventure captured through my lens.
I find the most joy in capturing the moment in time that can be remembered through a still photograph. Photography is such an amazing medium for communication, for the language of art can be universal.
